Background

Johannes Nambala (1991) is Namibia’s and sprint champion in 100m and 200m in T13 (totally blind). He won two silver medals at the Paralympics of Rio 2016 and was the World Champion in the 400m event in 2019. He is competing against the world’s best from Europa, US and Latin America.

Johannes Nambala was born in 1991 in the village of Iikokola, in the Uukwaluudhi District of Namibia. Complications at birth left him visually impaired; though he is not blind. Johannes was honored with an award for Sports Man of the Year with a disability for the MTC/NSC Namibia Sports Awards in 2017.

Johannes's athletic prowess manifested early, making his international debut in 2010 at the youth games in Swaziland. His journey is adorned with triumphs, including notable victories at various international competitions and a pinnacle achievement at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, Brazil.

After two silver medals at the Rio2016 Paralympics, Johannes Nambala won gold at the 9th Fazza Para Athletics Championships in 200m (22,08 sec) and gold in 400m (49,01 sec). He clocked his season best in 200m with a time of 21,81 seconds and a season best in 400m beating the finish line with a time of 48,01 seconds. It was a build up to the London World Para Athletics Championships where Johannes achieved another two silver medals in the 200m and 400m races. He was a world champion in the 400m event in the World Championship in Dubai in 2019.

Motivated by an unwavering passion for success, Johannes sets ambitious goals, aiming to maintain a winning streak, compete in both Paralympic and Olympic games, and establish a world record. His strength emanates from an intrinsic athletic spirit, driven by self-motivation rather than external influences. While he remains discreet about his weaknesses, Johannes draws inspiration from his performances as stepping stones for personal growth.
