Team Namibia had a standout day at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Jesolo with impressive achievements across various events. The 100m T11 event saw a Namibian sweep with Ananias Shikongo leading, followed by Chris Kinda and Alfred Bernardo. In the 400m T11, Chris Kinda took silver, outpacing Ananias Shikongo who won bronze. Lahja Ishitile won gold in both the 100m and 400m T11 events, showcasing her dominance. Johannes Nambala secured a gold in the T13 400m and a close silver in the 100m event. Bradley Murere claimed gold in the 100m T46, and Karuli Petrus won silver in the 400m T37 but faced a setback with a false start in the 100m event. Lahja Ipinge finished 5th in the T12 100m but was disqualified in the 400m event. These results highlight the team’s strong performance on the first day of the Grand Prix, with acknowledgments to the guide runners, coaches, and supporting staff.
Team NPC Namibia had a successful day on the 14th of May and made notbale achievements, such as Ananias Shikongo PLY winning his second gold in the T11 200m with a time of 23.98s. Petrus Karuli secured a silver in the T37 200m, clocking 26.65s. Lahja Ishitile, initially disqualified in the T11 200m for a lane infringement, had her gold medal reinstated after the disqualification was overturned, finishing in 27.13s. Lahja Ipinge placed 4th in the T12 200m with a time of 27.75s, and Bradley Murere also finished 4th in the mixed T46/47 Long Jump, leaping 5.93m. The team is now preparing for the Grand Prix in Nottwil, Switzerland, and the last day of competition in Jesolo, Italy, features events for Murere, Shikongo, Petrus, Ipinge, and Ishitile in various track and field categories.
