Shikongo gives back to NPC

WINDHOEK, 26 FEB (NAMPA) – A number of athletes with disabilities will benefit from a donation of sports gear from the Netherlands to Paralympic gold medallist Ananias Shikongo’s Sport on the Move Foundation.

The foundation has handed the donation, which includes running gear, spikes, cleats and football boots, over to the Namibia Paralympic Committee (NPC) for further distribution to athletes.

DONATION TO DESERVED PEOPLE

The goods were donated by The Bike Store; the Trifora Sports and Health Club and a number of individuals in the Netherlands, where Shikongo and fellow athlete Johannes Nambala trained ahead of the 2018 International Paralympic Committee Berlin Grand Prix.

It was delivered to the NPC office by Elisa Ostet and Sebastian Piest, who accommodated the two athletes and guide Even Tjivijiu during their stay in that country.

Shikongo told Nampa recently he was happy to give the items he received to the NPC because they have a greater network of athletes with disabilities who can benefit from it.

“As a young boy growing up in the northern parts of Namibia, I know how it feels to train without shoes or just one shirt that is not washed for the whole week. I think giving this donation to deserving people is one of the greatest things I have done in my life,”

he said.

Come on board

Shikongo stated that he hopes the donation will motivate athletes to work harder.
“As athletes we really struggle with getting the right clothing for training and at the end of the day it demotivates us… I really feel happy because I know the suffering we face as athletes. I also hope it will serve as motivation for the corporate world to come on board and start giving more,” he said.
