The Dubai 2019 World Para Athletics Championships came to an end for Ananias Shikongo and his guides Sem Shimanda and Even Tjiviju, Johannes Nambala and Lahja Ishitile with guide Syndey Kamuraruuma. Two medails, some Season’s Best, some Personal Bests and lessons learned to take home.
Johannes Nambala became the World Champion in the T13 400m event finishing in 48.73s and also won bronze in the T13 100m event with a time of 10.98s. He ran a seasons best for both distances.
It wasn’t easy for Ananias Shikongo and guide Even Tjiviju being disqualified in their 100m semi finals because of releasing the rope before the finish line. Earlier in the competition they ran a time of 11.43s. A seasons best! They also ran a seasons best in the 400m event: 52.47s
Also Lahja Ishitile and het guide Sydney Kamuaruuma had to learn their lessons in this competition. They participated in four events this time. First they ran a time of 1:03.94 in the 400m event. The couple didn’t qualify for the finals, but it was a good start of this championships.
Later they qualified for the finals in the 100m event with a time of 12.70s and also for the 200m semifinals. Unfortunately they got disqualified in the 200m semi finals because of WPA Rule 7.10 – Guide runners must not push, pull or otherwise propel athletes.
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But as a T11 athlete you will always be backed by your guide, your partner. A big shout out to all those athletes who decide to put their efforts and talents in helping other athletes.
We would like to thank all contributors to make these results possible.
